The independent regulator and competition authority for the Italian communications industries, Agcom, has the excellent opportunity to become the prime advocate of the development of broadband in a country which is still painfully behind with respect to the rest of Europe and which still, above all, is subject to the relentless dominance of the former incumbent.
Agcom has publicly requested that all the main telecommunications operators and stakeholders voice their opinion on the separation of Telecom Italia's network and on the potential remedies to the dominance of the ex-monopolist.
It is our opinion that the separation of the fixed line network is only part of the problem. Agcom today has the opportunity to define a regulatory framework which will boost the development of next generation networks...
