Capital expenditure in the three quarters of 2009 so far was $11.6 billion, compared with $13.9 billion in the same period of 2008.
Behind the flat results, the company highlighted strong gains in its mobile operation and its fibre-to-the-node U-verse broadband rollout.
Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson said: “We delivered a terrific wireless quarter, IP data growth was strong and execution across the business continues to be solid.”
In the quarterly statement issued via the Securities and Exchange Commission, the US financial regulator, five of the nine bullet points relate to US wireless services and two to U-verse.
Wireless highlights include a 2 million increase in subscribers to 81.6 million, with churn down to 1.43%. Wireless data revenues doubled compared with the same quarter two years ago to $3.6 billion.
The company activated 3.2 million iPhones in the quarter, with 40% of them to customers new to AT&T.
The net gain in U-verse IPTV subscribers was 240,000 in the quarter, taking the total in service to 1.8 million.
The group’s consolidated revenues totalled $30.9 billion in the quarter ended September 30 2009, compared with $31.3 billion in 2008. The company expects the full year’s revenues to be “slightly below the 2008 results”, said AT&T. Net income for the quarter was $3.2 billion, the same as in 2008. GTB
