The 234next.com website quotes ZTE executive Wayne Guo as saying the $1 billion is part of $15 billion that ZTE has available for investment in overseas projects via a framework agreement with the China Development Bank.

The vendor held a workshop with Nigerian operators in Lagos. Zhang Zhengyong, ZTE wireless solution manager from its R&D centre, said told the operators: “We want to introduce new technology into Africa. Nigeria, especially, is a place of market interest.”

The workshop was “about how new technology could be used to reduce stress” of the cost of equipment, licences and other factors, Zhang said. GTB
