Comment: Ask any analyst — or well-informed operator — to forecast which vendors will be most successful in the coming decade and all, without exception, will place Huawei in the top two. The company’s continued growth shows that it is achieving its expectations.
China’s Huawei Technologies estimates contract sales will rise to $36 billion in 2010. Last year, global sales reached over $30 billion.
The Chinese telecommunications equipment maker’s unaudited revenue in 2009 amounted to $21.5 billion, up 17% from $18.3 billion in 2008. The growth was, however, slower than the 43% seen in 2008.
Huawei has witnessed growth in domestic and overseas markets due to stronger demand for network equipment as carriers expand the launch of third-generation mobile services in China.
In November 2009, Norway’s biggest telecom operator, Telenor, picked Huawei to supply to its new Norwegian wireless network. Telenor replaced gear supplied by Ericsson and Nokia Siemens. Huawei’s six-year contract includes services and maintenance. GTB
