Comment: Skype is forging a new identity following its separation from eBay. Even under its later days in eBay it started to hire people from the more traditional telecoms industry, such as Motorola.

Skype Technologies has hired Miles Flint as chairman. He will head the Luxembourg-based phone company's board of directors and also coordinate activities among the board's committees.

Flint is an adviser to private-equity firm Silver Lake whose investments include Seagate Technology. Before joining Silver Lake, he was president of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications from 2004 to 2007.

Internet auction company eBay sold Skype to Silver Lake and an investor group including actor Ashton Kutcher's firm, Katalyst, for $2 billion in November. The international telephone service provider has formed a new board of directors after the deal.

Skype also appointed David Gurle as vice president for its business unit. Gurle will develop products for businesses and convince companies to switch their telephone systems to Skype.

Flint spent nearly 17 years in Sony and Sony Ericsson, and announced his departure in September 2007, declaring a wish for a career break. GTB
