TeliaSonera buys $220m UCell stake

Sweden’s TeliaSonera has purchased a further 20% stake in the jointly owned TeliaSonera Uzbek Telecom. The telecom services provider will pay Takilant $220 million for the stake. The deal has increased TeliaSonera’s ownership in the company to 94% from the previous 74%.

Dutch holding company, TeliaSonera Uzbek Telecom, owns a 100% stake in UCell, which in 2009 was the second-largest mobile operator in Uzbekistan with 4,759,000 subscribers. UCell’s net sales in 2009 were $122.98 million, for the period of January -September.

TeliaSonera provides telecommunication services in the Nordic and Baltic countries, the emerging markets of Eurasia, including Russia and Turkey, and in Spain. The company provides cross-border voice, IP and capacity services, through its wholly-owned international carrier network. GTB
