Dubai’s Emirates Integrated Telecommunications — which uses the name Du — will be spending over $545 million on network expansion and development in 2010. The company will offer its first set of services using a network share with rival company Etisalat after a deal with the Telecom Regulatory Authority.

The services are expected to be launched by the end of July 2010. The shared telecom infrastructure will allow the companies to focus on service development and innovation.

Du, headed by CEO Osman Sultan, has already unveiled a prepaid telephone service, Homephone Recharge, offering international calls from home landlines. It will allow fixed landline customers across the United Arab Emirates to call 190 destinations across the world.

The service will also allow its customers to use recharge cards on any home landline in the UAE, regardless of the provider. The UAE had 1.3 million fixed line subscribers at the end of 2009. GTB
