Telecom Italia is to start trials of LTE technology with Alcatel-Lucent, the companies announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The vendor, headed by Ben Verwaayen, said that its Bell Labs and Telecom Italia’s labs will assess how to deploy next-generation mobile access technology and how to fully exploit its capabilities, in order to introduce new mobile services, while reducing the time-to-market.
A field trial will also focus on the usage of picocells to serve high-demand hotspots and indoor services, and will test throughput and latency.
The companies provided no details of where in Italy the trials will be carried out. GTB
