YTL Communications is set to launch the one of world’s first nationwide 4G networks in Malaysia.
In preparation for the launch, the company will acquire one million single WiMax and dual WiMax/wifi chips from GCT Semiconductor.
The company will transfer the units to key original design manufacturers selected to provide 4G devices to YTL Communications in 2010. Global Telecoms Business is due to interview Wing Lee, the CEO of YTL Communications, later in February.
The one million unit commitment from YTL Communications will allow the company to maintain over 60% market share in 2010.
YTL Communications is the communications utility of YTL Power International, which is a subsidiary of a Malaysian based conglomerate, YTL Corporation.
GCT, which provides WiMax chips solutions, claims the largest market share based on WiMax chipsets sold and number of WiMax subscribers currently using its technology. GTB
