The Belgian government is offering its fourth 3G licence along with some additional radio spectrum in higher bands. The licence, which was originally planned to be sold in 2001, may be sold as a single 15 megahertz block with a reserve price of €80 million or in chunks of 5 megahertz with a reserve price of €40 million each.

Companies interested in the licence include cable operators Telenet and Voo. Existing mobile operators Belgacom, France Telecom’s Mobistar and KPN’s Base paid €150 million for their licences in 2001.

Belgium will also sell capacity in 2.6 gigahertz bands for LTE services after completing the 3G auction. The government will offer five licences for LTE, with an expected minimum price of €15 million each.

A block of 50 megahertz of unpaired spectrum, with an expected reserve of €25 million, will also be offered, which may be purchased by a WiMax carrier. GTB
