Brazil’s largest fixed-line telephone company, Oi, may invest between $1.7 billion and $2.2 billion in 2010. The company will focus on increasing its client base with investments in the expansion of optical fibre infrastructure in strategic cities, in the broadband segment.
The company, which offers fixed, mobile and internet services across most of Brazil, is expecting to launch high-speed broadband with access speed ranging from two to 100 megabits a second in 35 cities during 2010.
The company spent $2.9 billion in 2009, with 70% of that invested into networks. The capex in 2009, which was oriented to the launch of mobile operations in São Paulo, was higher than 2010 due to the integration between Oi and Brasil Telecom.
The company, which aims to reduce its debt to 1.7 times to 1.9 times ebitda by the end of 2010, will expand its direct-to-home base. GTB
