América Móvil and Telmex Internacional are looking to invest $880 million in Peru’s infrastructure by 2012. The duo will make the proposed investment over the next three years to help execute infrastructure works, which will offer greater coverage, capacity and technological innovation.
The wireless operator will inject $500 million, while fixed-line company, Telmex, will invest the remaining $380 million.
Both the companies, which are controlled by Mexican billionaire, Carlos Slim, have opened a new fibre optic backbone network with an investment of $110 million that runs the entire 3,20 kilometre length of Peru’s Pacific coast.
América Móvil, which owns Claro Peru, serves 71% of Mexico’s wireless market, and has operations in Brazil and Chile, among other countries. GTB
