Telecom New Zealand will either sell its international wholesale voice business or will look for a partner for it. The company, headed by former BT executive Paul Reynolds, has divided its international unit into data and voice subsidiaries and is considering various options for the voice business.
The voice unit, which has earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, of about $14 million, will gain from being sold or teamed up with some other company as the market is consolidating. Telecom NZ will retain its data subsidiary.
Reynolds, former CEO of BT Wholesale, has denied continuing speculation that Canadian operator Rogers Communications was interested in acquiring the international unit.
Telecom has hired Ernst & Young as independent adviser for the process. GTB
