Nokia has initiated a fresh lawsuit against Apple by alleging that the new iPad 3G violates its patents. The mobile company claims that Apple’s wireless-enabled iPads, as well as its iPhone, infringe five of its patents relating to speech and data technologies, the use of positioning data in applications, and innovations in antenna configurations.
The suit, filed in Wisconsin, seeks an unspecified amount of cash compensation and an order that would halt Apple’s use of Nokia inventions.
The complaint follows a suit Nokia filed last October alleging that iPhone infringed 10 patents for technologies.
Apple has sold over one million iPads since its debut in early April and is planning to launch the product in nine overseas markets. Nokia is planning a range of smartphones and tablets.
Nokia expects the lawsuit to be resolved in 12-18 months. GTB
