Nokia Siemens Networks has been awarded a contract to upgrade South African operator Cell C’s all-IP radio access and backbone network. The operator is enhancing its radio network to manage increasing mobile data traffic and smart device usage.
Nokia is offering a base station with GSM, 3G and LTE features. The station can be installed on Cell C’s existing base station sites, allowing the operator to roll-out 3G-based mobile broadband coverage, while simplifying the network and reducing operating costs.
The company is also offering its all-IP microwave solution for mobile backhaul and its operation support solutions for network and resource management, trouble ticketing and workflow management.
Cell C requires a solution to accommodate its still-growing GSM business and its need to modernise 3G voice and data mobile technology. GTB
