China Mobile has named Wang Jianzhou chairman of its newly-established board of directors. The operator, the state-owned parent of Hong Kong-listed China Mobile Limited, has set up a board of directors following government policy.
But the move also includes the appointment of Wang’s successor as effective CEO of the world’s largest operator. Li Yue, who is 51, has been appointed as general manager of the corporation. Li is currently deputy manager of the company.
China Mobile said: “This move will further complete the leadership system and governance structure of state-owned enterprises, and make the company’s management strategy more scientific and regulated.” Wang, the current general manager of China Mobile and CEO of its listed affiliate, was the deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China’s leadership group of China Mobile.
Li is also chairman of Aspire Holdings and was appointed a non-executive director of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings in March 2010.
