Alcatel-Lucent will supply gigabit passive optical network and ethernet aggregation equipment for the national broadband network. NBN has allocated an initial $70 million for the equipment purchase has reserved up to $1.5 billion to buy such hardware.
The contract also allows NBN to buy what it needs when it needs it and allows it to engage other suppliers at a later date of its choosing.
