Russian mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems has obtained a credit facility of up to €300 million. The loan is backed by Finland’s export credit agency Finnvera.
The proceeds will be used for the development of MTS’s mobile networks in Russia and Ukraine through purchases of equipment and services from Nokia Siemens Networks.
The facility will have a maturity of eight years and will carry a six-month Euribor + 1.65% interest rate.
BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, and Société Générale are assisting with the deal.
MTS is also in discussions with media companies, including News Corporation’s Fox and Sony, to boost web content. The operator is looking to buy more films and television programmes for its online entertainment service, Omlet.ru.
The Moscow-based operator’s portal is available on broadband-connected computers and mobile phones.
MTS has already signed deals with Walt Disney and NBC Universal. GTB
