ECI Telecom has been selected as a strategic partner by BT’s Openreach unit, which runs its local loop network.
ECI, which has been awarded an $800 million contract, will help Openreach bring a large scale super-fast broadband solution to the UK as part of Openroach’s next-generation access programme.
As part of the contract, ECI will provide Openreach with a solution to simplify network aggregation and boost scalability and flexibility. The NGA project is intended to meet the needs of UK customers, regulators and the industry by implementing an open, scalable and secure network.
Openreach is planning to spend another $1.5 billion out of a total of $3.78 billion, to extend deployment of fibre-to-the-premises and fibre-to-the- cabinet to around two-thirds of the UK by 2015. Openreach will use ECI’s Hi-FOCuS multi-service access node to launch a FTTP and FTTC network countrywide. GTB
