Slovenia’s Si.mobil has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to enhance its mobile capacity with an optical fibre network. NSN has entered into a five-year contract, which also includes a range of services including installation, commissioning and implementation as well as support and maintenance.
Si.mobil, which offers services through its HSPA network in partnership with Vodafone and has over 591,000 customers, will launch NSN’s dense wavelength division multiplexing optical transport platform to improve efficiency of its backhaul network across the country.
The platform aims at launching an element of modularity to the operator’s network that will allow it to respond to growing bandwidth demands. Its architecture will save on staff training time and costs and reduce the volume of spare parts needed to be kept in stock.
Si.mobil is owned by Mobilkom Austria, part of Telekom Austria. GTB
