French fixed line and mobile operator SFR will continue to invest €1.5 billion in order to improve the quality of its mobile and internet networks in 2010. The firm, which is a unit of Vivendi, will also invest €150 million in launching its ultra-high speed fibre-optic network.
The group acquired 3G mobile frequencies earlier in 2010 to boost its mobile network capacity and allow its customers to use new data-heavy services including IP phones.
The group’s 3G mobile networks covered 87% of the French population as of the end of June, exceeding the target of 84% fixed by telecom regulator, Arcep. SFR’s competitors include France Telecom, Bouygues Telecom and Iliad. SFR is also an associate of Vodafone. GTB
