RIM to launch China app store

Research in Motion is planning to launch an app store in China to help it compete in the local smartphone market

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion is seeking to start an online application store and consumer internet services in mainland China as part of its efforts to make an inroad in the Chinese smartphone market.
RIM is working with content suppliers and online service providers such as Baidu, Tencent Holdings and Alibaba Group for the rollout of a website catering for BlackBerry. The company will roll out online services for consumers soon, which will enable RIM to speed up its expansion.
Separately, China Telecom has also completed the purchase of the its first batch of the 3G BlackBerry 9530 and will roll out the model later July in Beijing. China Telecom will debut the 3G BlackBerry model in southern China’s Guangdong province to government and enterprise clients exclusively later this month. GTB
