Indian government-owned operator BSNL has received bids from Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks for securing 5.5 million lines to increase its GSM operations.
Managing director Kuldeep Goyal confirmed to Indian media that three bids have been received.
The telecom operator had earlier called for a 93 million line tender, which was later cancelled. Huawei was the winner in one of the regions under the earlier 93 million line tender. This time the Indian operator has not included Chinese equipment makers Huawei and ZTE in the new tender.
BSNL cancelled the earlier tender amid controversies that the procedure lacked competition.
NSN, which was disqualified from participating in the financial bid, also challenged the decision of the telecom company in court. Due to cancellation of the tender, BSNL has been facing a severe capacity shortage. GTB
