Alcatel-Lucent says it is expecting the first of a number of Indian orders for broadband equipment to arrive in 2011.
The company says it is in discussions with Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Vodafone, Tata Teleservices and Idea Cellular — companies that have recently spent a combined $23 billion for licences in recent Indian auctions of 3G and broadband wireless radio airwaves in the cellular market.
Alcatel-Lucent is also considering setting up its global services headquarters in India. The headquarters would need about $500 million in investments over three years.
Separately, the company has appointed Munish Seth as the country head for its Indian business. He replaces Vivek Mohan (pictured), who will now head Alcatel-Lucent’s global services business. Seth will report to Rajeev Singh-Molares, president of the Asia-Pacific region. GTB
