India has approved imports of Chinese telecom equipment by Indian mobile operators, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices. China’s Huawei and ZTE will be able to sell their devices to Indian operators, after the government lifted the ban on import of telecom devices.
India had tightened rules for telecom gear imports, saying vendors must allow inspection of their equipment and share design and source codes in escrow accounts.
Tata Teleservices, which had applied for government approval to buy telecoms gear from Huawei and ZTE, got the approval after the Chinese firms accepted all the conditions set by India.
Separately, an application by Reliance Communications to order equipment from ZTE has also been approved, according to reports in India. GTB
