Dell has launched its first US smartphone. The 3.5-inch Android device, Aero, will sell for $99.99 with a two-year contract from AT&T, or $299.99 without the contract.
Aero, which will support Adobe Systems’ Flash software, has to be ordered through Dell’s website. The 3.5-inch touchscreen phone, said to be one of the lightest smartphones on the market, has features including built-in Facebook, Twitter and YouTube applications.
Earlier in August 2010, the company also launched a 5-inch tablet, the Streak, which also runs on Android and uses the AT&T network for phone calls. The company began selling a smartphone, Mini 3i, in China, late in 2009.
Dell is expecting Android to have a 19.4% share of the smartphone market by 2012 as compared to 15.9% for the 62 million iPhones that are predicted to be sold by then. GTB
