Mexico’s Megacable Holdings has signed a contract to sell the mobile services of Spain’s Telefónica to its customers. The Mexican cable operator will begin selling mobile telephony in the main cities within its coverage area by the end of this year.
The deal will make Megacable the first company in Mexico to provide fixed and mobile phone services along with cable television and internet, or “quadruple play.”
The two companies are planning to sell 3G wireless services such as high-speed internet in the second half of next year.
The agreement will allow Telefónica Mexico to reach more subscribers. Telefónica Mexico has already started selling 3G services after winning wireless spectrum in two auctions this year. GTB
