TeliaSonera has launched LTE services in Sweden’s second biggest city. The operator has rolled out the service in the city of Gothenburg.
Nokia Siemens Networks provided its radio equipment for the 4G roll out in the city and will participate in deployments in 25 Swedish cities in 2010. The operator said it plans to expand LTE to 218 towns and cities in Sweden by the end of 2011.
A recent test of the LTE network in Stockholm resulted in download speeds at up to 59.1 megabits a second. Under optimum circumstances, the network can offer download speeds at up to 80 megabits.
The operator is also upgrading its GSM, EDGE and 3G networks. TeliaSonera is upgrading its 3G network to HSPA+ at 21 megabits.
In 2011, TeliaSonera plans to deploy 4G in more than 200 towns and cities in Sweden. This includes a major investment in resorts in Bohuslän and archipelago, and several communities on Oland and Gotland. GTB
