US operator MetroPCS Communications is launching LTE services next month, according to reports from Korea. It will offer LTE services in Las Vegas and Dallas in September. In Las Vegas, Korean company Samsung Electronics is supplying the equipment.
MetroPCS will also roll out the first US LTE phone, the Samsung Craft, along with the services. There will be a limited number of LTE phones available in the near term as the technology is still relatively new.
Samsung’s 4G phone will use the high-speed LTE networks for data transmission and 3G CDMA network for telephone calls.
Sprint Nextel is already offering 4G services through its partner Clearwire, which is developing a 4G network using WiMax. GTB
