Lodewijk Cornelis, CMO of MACH, has died in a cycling accident while on holiday with his family. He first joined MACH in 1995 as sales manager. He leaves behind his wife and young child.
Zain appointments: CEO Nabeel Bin Salamah has made changes in Zain’s Middle Eastern operations in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Sudan following the sale of its African business to Bharti Airtel. Barrak Al Sabeeh is appointed COO; Haitham Al Khaled is CTO; Khaled Al Hajeri as CEO advisor for Saudi Arabian affairs; Ossama Matta is CFO; Bashar Arafeh is chief commercial officer; Lynne Dorward is chief regulatory officer; Andrew Arowojolu is director of business development; Cem Yolcu is director of strategy; Ina Rabieh is director of human resources. Khalid Al Omar is CEO of Zain’s Kuwait operation and Emad Makiya is CEO of Zain Iraq.
Phil Jordan, ex Vodafone, is CIO of Telefónica O2 in the UK, and is part of the leadership team for IT transformation in Telefónica globally.
Intec has appointed Kallol Hazra as managing director for its operation in India. He was director of application services in HP’s enterprise services business — formerly EDS — in India.
Patni Computer Systems appointments: Sunil Chitale is promoted to executive vice president and chief strategy and marketing officer, in charge of its M&A, marketing and strategic planning functions; Apoorva Singh, ex Infosys, is senior VP and global head of infrastructure management services; Avtar Sangha, ex Tech Mahindra, is head of delivery for the EMEA region.
Nevion has promoted Arne-Johan Martinsen to be product manager for its Flashlink range.
Telenor appointments: Pål Bjørdal, CEO of its Maritime Communications Partner subsidiary, is to be CEO of AeroMobile, in succession to Bjørn-Taale Sandberg, who returns to the parent company; Stein-Erik Vellan has resigned as MD of its new Indian operation, Uninor, and will now move on to a different position within the group. Sigve Brekke, head of Telenor Asia region, has been nominated as MD of Uninor pending all regulatory and statutory approvals in India, and will also continue to be the head of Asia for Telenor.
Michael Henderson, ex Telcordia and ADC, is executive VP for sales and marketing in CSG Systems.
Openet appointments: Eimer McGovern, ex PwC, is CFO; Joe Hogan, founder and CTO, now also heads the core product development team and is CTO and group VP core product engineering; Juliana Su heads the new services division; Jim Chadwick, formerly COO, is now Openet’s America regional VP for services.
Telegent: Ford Tamer is appointed CEO. He was a partner at Khosla Ventures and before that was senior VP and general manager of Broadcom’s infrastructure networking group. He succeeds co-founder Samuel Sheng who will resume his position of CTO. Ron Kao, also ex Broadcom, is VP of Asia Pacific for Telegent.
Sue Sheldon has been appointed as an independent director of Telecom New Zealand. She also sits on the boards of several other high profile New Zealand companies, including Freightways and Contact Energy, and is a director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
Telekom Austria: Alexander Sperl has left its Serbian subsidiary Vip Mobile to be chief commercial officer at A1 Telekom Austria. New CEO at Vip Mobile is Thanasis Katsiroumpas and new CMO is Petra Stangl. US educated Katsiroumpas was CEO of Globul in Bulgaria; Strangl was deputy marketing director at Mobilkom Austria.
Michael Motta is senior VP of engineering at Telenity. He was VP of engineering at an MIT Media Labs spinoff, nTAG Interactive.
Mark Quartermaine, former UK president of BT Global Services, is CEO of managed communications provider Azzurri.
Hayley Tabor, former senior VP of US enterprise sales at Juniper Networks, is appointed VP of worldwide sales at wifi company Xirrus.
Sean Mahon, managing director of Cable & Wireless Worldwide’s Ireland business, is now MD, enterprise, for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Volubill has appointed Winston Rivero as vice president of sales for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Simoco has promoted Andy Woodhall to be COO to oversee Team Simoco and ComGroup Australia. He was general manager of ComGroup, which Simoco acquired in July 2009.
