Vodafone and Telefónica O2 will sell the iPhone in Germany, after Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile loses exclusivity

Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile is to lose exclusivity in Germany for selling Apple’s iPhone, and Vodafone and Telefónica O2 will begin to sell the phone, according to reports.
T-Mobile has held exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in Germany since November 2007. Deutsche Telecom’s contract was not extended and may end by October 2010.
German customers can buy older unlocked iPhone models, such as the 3G, through alternative distributors.
As of June 30, Deutsche Telekom had sold a total of 1.9 million iPhones in Germany. It is the last major European market in which one provider has exclusive rights to sell the iPhone. In the UK, O2 lost exclusivity, while in France the market opened up to rivals of Orange after a legal ruling. GTB
