Andrew Davies, CFO of Vodafone Essar in India, is to be VP and CFO of Verizon Wireless in the US, a company in which the Vodafone group owns 45%. Verizon group owns the other 55% of Verizon Wireless.
Davies replaces another Vodafone executive at Verizon Wireless, John Townsend, who is to be regional CFO for Vodafone’s European region from November 15.
There is a long tradition of Vodafone providing an executive to be Verizon Wireless’s CFO. Townsend’s own predecessor at the US operation was Andrew Halford, who was replaced at the start of 2005 when he became Vodafone’s group financial director designate. He is still CFO of the Vodafone group.
Halford took over five years earlier as CFO of Verizon Wireless from yet another Vodafone executive, Edward Langston.
The latest Vodafone posting to Verizon Wireless, Davies, has been at Vodafone Essar for three years. He has held a number of senior positions within the group including CFO of Vodafone Turkey, finance director for Vodafone Japan, and head of finance for the consumer business unit within Vodafone UK.
He is a mathematician with a degree from Imperial College London. GTB
