Facebook and Skype are considering aligning their communications services more closely, according to reports. As per the proposed partnership, Facebook users will be able to sign into Skype via their Facebook Connect accounts. Users will be able to text message, voice chat and video chat with their Facebook friends from within Skype.
The integrated functions will be part of Skype’s 5.0 version, which is expected to be released soon, according to the Wall Street Journal. The agreement will more tightly link Skype’s 560 million registered users with Facebook’s 500 million members.
The partnership is likely to pressure Google, which is battling Facebook for internet users’ attention and last month integrated voice calling into its Gmail service. GTB
