China Telecom and Alcatel-Lucents Chinese arm, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, have struck a broadband deal allowing China to gain access to enhanced broadband services.
Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell is assisting the countrys telecom company to set up a state-of-the-art fibre optic broadband access network.
Alcatel-Lucent will supply its Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) product family, supporting GPON, EPON and DSL technologies and enabling fibre to the home, node and building.
The project, termed as Broadband China, Fibre Cities, will install a combination of passive optical networking technologies for connecting office buildings, homes and remote nodes.
Wei Leping, chairman of China Telecoms science and technology committee, said: By 2015, China Telecom will achieve a FTTH coverage of 100 million households and 30 million FTTH subscribers.
On completion of the project, China Telecom can offer users consumer and business services at a speed in the excess of 50 megabits a second, which will be guaranteed with quality of service levels.
This project is part of China Telecoms strategy to expand its FTTH coverage to 100 million users by the end of the countrys 12th five-year plan for 2011-2015. GTB
