Sanjiv Ahuja’s wireless broadband company Augere is set to launch its WiMax wireless broadband network in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, on November 25.
The company, which operates under the brand name Qubee, has also acquired a spectrum licence for wireless broadband services in Tanzania. The permit expands the company’s coverage, which already includes Uganda and Rwanda.
David Venn, Augere’s global chief executive, said: “We are at the forefront of the broadband revolution in emerging markets, and the launch in Rwanda and the new licence in Tanzania greatly increase the opportunities for people in the region and for the Augere business.”
Augere already runs services under the Qubee brand in Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Augere business, of which Ahuja is executive chairman, is independent of the LightSquared wholesale LTE operation in the US, of which he is CEO. GTB
