Philippines approves PLDT role in Asia cable

Regulator allows PLDT to invest $55 million in ASE submarine cable project with NTT, StarHub and Telekom Malaysia

The National Telecommunications Commission of the Philippines has sanctioned Philippine Long Distance Telephone’s participation in the 7,200 kilometre Asia Submarine-cable Express project.
Following the provisional approval, the firm will build the required terminal in Daet, to link its infrastructure to the $304 million submarine fibre cable.
According to the document issued by NTC, PLDT will be investing $55 million in the project shared with NTT Communications, StarHub and Telekom Malaysia. The cable will connect the Philippines, Japan and many other countries in Asia.
At present, PLDT has existing landing stations for international submarine cables including the Asia Pacific Network 2, the Southeast Asia, Middle East, the Guam Pacific system, Western Europe system, and the America Asia Gateway. GTB
