Italy’s 4G auction starts at €2.3bn

Companies’ initial offers for the 4G frequencies hit €2.3bn before auction starts on August 31

The Italian government has already received initial offers totalling €2.3 billion for the fourth-generation mobile frequencies which will be auctioned starting August 31. The offers encompassed several telecoms companies including Vodafone, Hutchison Whampoa’s 3 Italia, Telecom Italia and VimpelCom-controlled Wind Telecommunicazioni.
Contenders will be allowed to raise their bids, according to the nation’s industry ministry. Paolo Romani, the industry minister said he expects a minimum overall amount of €3.1 billion from the auction. GTB
