The Italian government has already received initial offers totalling 2.3 billion for the fourth-generation mobile frequencies which will be auctioned starting August 31. The offers encompassed several telecoms companies including Vodafone, Hutchison Whampoas 3 Italia, Telecom Italia and VimpelCom-controlled Wind Telecommunicazioni.
Contenders will be allowed to raise their bids, according to the nations industry ministry. Paolo Romani, the industry minister said he expects a minimum overall amount of 3.1 billion from the auction. GTB
