ZTE to pursue deals with US operators despite political obstructions on Chinese firms by US authorities

ZTE has said it will pursue plans to sell equipment to major US operators, despite political opposition. The Chinese equipment maker stated that it seeks to boost ties with Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile USA, and Sprint Nextel.
Richard Ye, senior director of wireless product operations at ZTE, told Dow Jones at the GSM Association’s Mobile Asia Congress: “Although we have been blocked by the US government, we just can’t give up breaking into the US market because its size is huge and per-capita spending is high.”
Some US politicians have attempted to block Chinese firms, including ZTE and Huawei, from selling equipment in the US, citing security reasons.
ZTE is taking a cautious approach towards the matter. Ye said that his company will not continue operations in Iran, as it hopes to appease the US. Meanwhile, ZTE chairman Hou Weigui has recently said that though the company does not seek deals for core network equipment in the US, it will not quit “this important market”. GTB
