Cyprus Telecommunications Authority — the incumbent operator for the island republic of Cyprus — and the Lebanese ministry of telecommunications have agreed to cooperate in planning and construction of the Europa undersea cable system crossing the Mediterranean between the two countries.
Europa will restore the existing Cadmos cable system which also connects the two countries, thus providing a high-quality alternative route and forming a bridge between the Imewe cable system landing in Lebanon and Alexandros cable subsystem landing in Cyprus.
Europa is expected to have at least eight fibre-pairs that will be interconnected with Alexandros subsystem to provide connectivity which will form a telecoms bridge between the Middle East and Europe. GTB
