Caribbean mobile and fixed operator Lime has awarded a contract to Juniper Networks to support its next-generation TV and video services. Juniper will deploy its media flow controller to cache, distribute and deliver television and video on demand content for enhanced viewing experience.
The new entertainment service from Lime — owned by Cable & Wireless Communications — will use adaptive bitrate streaming to offer up to 130 TV channels over broadband internet connection. The new service will be launched in Barbados and Jamaica in 2012, followed by in other Caribbean regions later in the year.
Patrick Bradd, chief technology officer at Lime, said: “We will deliver superior TV services that give subscribers a high quality of experience, one that is easy to use, and offers the content consumers want to watch.” The service will use Avail-TVN’s AnyView content and player technology.
Bradd added: “The technology in our underlying content delivery network is absolutely critical to achieving these goals, and that’s why we chose Juniper’s media flow controller.” GTB
