The consortium has awarded NEC a multi-million dollar supply contract to construct this cable network, The 10,400 kilometre undersea cable network will use 40 gigabit a second digital coherent detection and optical add-drop multiplexing technologies to meet broadband communication demands. The contract will be effective by March next year and this new cable network will link east Asian countries including Mainland China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong.
Nobuyuki Yanaginuma, NEC’s associate senior VP said: “Once completed, APG will have a significant impact and NEC’s state of the art advanced digital coherent 40G SLTE’s and OADM branching units will contribute to the economies of Asia and its surrounding countries.”
The cable is created to house 100 gigabits a second wavelength technology for high-capacity solutions. The demand for intra-Asia connectivity between north Asia and south east Asia is expected to be fulfilled with this cable network and this route will also evade damage from natural disasters. GTB
