Regulator approves SK Telecom’s purchase of stake in semiconductor maker Hynix

The Fair Trade Commission of South Korea has approved SK Telecom’s proposal to buy a 21% stake in chipmaker Hynix Semiconductor. Following the completion of the transaction, Hynix shareholders will be able to end a two-year attempt to dispose the shares they got through a government-led bailout in 2001.
In November 2011, South Korean operator SK Telecom decided to pay $3 billion to buy the shares that bring the operator into computer-memory chips market, valued at $39 billion annually. GTB
