Samuel Eto’o, said to be the highest paid footballer in the world, is reported to have set up a new mobile network in Cameroon in a bid to compete with existing operators MTN and Orange.
According to Peace FM Online, Set’Mobile has already sold 50,000 SIM cards and the network is said to be planned to become active on January 21 to coincide with the opening day of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, the Africa-wide football championships. Eto’o is captain of the Cameroon team.
Set’Mobile, which will also provide mobile internet services, has enough room to expand its market share in the sector as the Cameroon’s mobile network market penetration stands at 49%, less than the 75% rate in neighbouring countries, including Ivory Coast, Senegal and Ghana. GTB
