Saudi Telecom has awarded a contract to Alcatel-Lucent to launch an LTE network in the country, following a successful trial. Under the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy LTE in 11 cities in the north of the country to provide improved broadband data services.
Zeyad Al-Etaibi, STC’s CTO, said: “STC is committed to delivering innovative services to its subscribers and together with Alcatel-Lucent we are confident we will enrich our customers’ lives by offering a variety of services for consumers and businesses. Our customers will enjoy the benefits of 4G LTE through an enhanced mobile experience that is unmatched in the industry.”
In the first phase, the contract will cover the launch of LTE services in 11 important cities. Alcatel-Lucent is assisting the operator to create an ecosystem of major firms to provide content, applications and other services.
