Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom is to spend $6.6 billion in fibre and mobile broadband networks over the next 10 years, including $3.3 billion in three years on an optical fibre network.
The company’s president Chang Hsiao-tung said that it will begin to test what it calls its G-generation programme in 2012, reported the China Economic News Service. The operator hopes to carry out 1G trials in 2012 in five cities, according to the agency.
The Taipei based operator will employ LTE technology for mobile services, raising speeds to 50 megabits in 2012 and 100 megabits after that, aiming for more than 80% coverage by 2015. GTB
