France Telecom-Orange and Bouygues Telecom have concluded a partnership agreement to share fibre-to-the-home networks deployed by France Telecom-Orange across France.
Through this partnership, France Telecom-Orange will provide a service for sharing its optical fibre networks in the 148 largest cities in France with Bouygues up to the final connection into buildings.
In addition, Bouygues will use France Telecom’s wholesale services outside the most densely populated regions of France.
The two agreements together cover a potential market of 10.6 million homes, says France Telecom.
The deals cover the external network only. Inside buildings, Bouygues will have to build its own networks or work with existing cable-sharing agreements.
France Telecom already has similar deals with France’s other two competitive operators, Free and SFR, signed in the second half of 2011.
France Telecom-Orange plans to invest €2 billion by 2015 to bring FTTH to 10 million households. Coverage should reach nearly 60% of all French households by 2020. GTB
