Turkcell is considering acquiring Bulgarian operator Vivacom, its deputy CEO Koray Öztürkler told Reuters. Öztürkler said that the company’s board is yet to finalise the decision. Vivacom, formerly BTC, is a fixed and mobile operator controlled by PineBridge Investments, a private equity company controlled by Hong Kong investor Richard Li’s Pacific Century Group and chaired by former banker and UK government minister Mervyn Davies.
Meanwhile, Austrian news reports have indicated that Telecom Austria has also expressed interest in Vivacom. Telekom Austria already owns another Bulgarian operator, Mobiltel. The third mobile operator in Bulgaria, Globul, is controlled by Greek incumbent OTE, itself controlled by Deutsche Telekom. GTB
