Indian mobile operator Bharti Airtel has signed a five-year managed services contract with NSN to manage and maintain its 3G and 2G GSM networks as well as its internet wireless access network. The deal encompasses Airtel’s networks in eight licence regions across India.
Sanjay Kapoor, Bharti Airtel’s CEO for India and South Asia, said: “India started its journey of transformation from voice to data with the deployment of 3G. The data story in the country has just begun and we will witness increasing complexity due to multiplicity of network layers specifically when serving data. This initiative is in line with our strategy to create ubiquitous networks for offering enriched customer experience.”
The deal covers the eight regions — or circles — of Bihar and Jharkhand, Kolkata, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Mumbai, and the Orissa and West Bengal.
As part of the deal NSN, which is already a managed services partner to Bharti Airtel in these eight circles, will also provide network optimisation, operations and maintenance services remotely from its global network solutions centre in Noida, India.
Ashish Chowdhary, NSN’s head of customer operations Asia and Middle East, said: “This deal will allow Bharti to simplify processes and improve end-to-end network and service performance. More importantly, stringent key performance indicators ensure we’re helping Bharti Airtel deliver an enhanced subscriber experience.” GTB
