Huawei Marine Networks is to build the ASSC-1 submarine cable project that will run between Perth, on Australia’s west coast, and Singapore.
ASSC-1 looks to provide “indiscriminate” access to its partners and customers such tier 1 carriers, internet service providers and secondary service providers.
Huawei Marine Networks plans to use its 40 gigabits per second networking technology for the project. The 6.4 terabits per second cable ASSC-1 will rival the existing SEA-ME-WE3 cable along the route.
Australian operator Telstra has reportedly agreed to buy capacity on the 4,600 kilometre cable.
According to current project timelines, the project will begin construction in the first quarter of 2012 and take approximately 18-22 months for final completion. GTB
