Telefónica partners with Sybase 365 for mobile wallet services to be launched in first half of 2012
Telefónica Digital is partnering with Sybase 365 to develop its mobile wallet service, which will be a gateway to its mobile financial services for customers. The m-wallet will help access services from a stored value account through to payments and peer-to-peer transfers, and will be capable of storing prepaid, debit, credit and loyalty cards.
Joaquín Mata, financial services head at Telefónica Digital, said: “The mobile wallet lies at the heart of our financial services strategy and it is crucial that we deliver a strong, simple and secure user experience to our customers. Through partnership we can bring the best experience to our end user customers.”
Sybase 365, a mobile information services provider, joins other partners including Giesecke and Devrient which will provide the platform for forthcoming NFC services. All of these financial services capabilities are being deployed in by Telefónica in Miami.
The company expects to launch the first commercial wallet services in Latin America and Europe during the first half of 2012. Telefónica uses the Movistar brand in Spain and Latin America and the O2 brand in the rest of Europe outside Spain.
